PWDe: A Virtual Exhibit

This exhibit draws from the words of NCDA director, Geraldine Ruiz, which expresses: "If you give the artist the chance, the chance to blossom, the chance to develop and the chance to show the world what he's got, that gives him the signal that he is accepted in society. That gives him the signal that he is being credited for his ability and he is not being judged because of his disability,". This joint exhibition provides an opportunity to contribute to the representation of people with disabilities and mental illness in the creative industry.

Through this exhibit we wish to transform the inconspicuous status of the PWDs to visible spectators, creators, and participants and to stir an enrichment of culture, change in attitudes and level of awareness of abled people.

PWDe: A Virtual Exhibit which was intended to be executed at the start of the year as the curator’s thesis was prevented by the start of the pandemic. She has since graduated but still hoped to realize this to help further the visible contributions of the PWDs in the creative field.

May this project serve as a wake up call for the rest of the art community to be consciously aware of PWD artists and may it also encourage more PWDs that their disability does not hinder them/their potential from creating something beautiful. There will always be ability in disability.

This exhibit was in partnership with The Child’s World - A Growing Center.
